marketing

Another view of downtown Halifax, looking South on Hollis Street. I'm standing in a glass 'pedway' over the street.
I've been approved for a table at the Halifax Seaport Market and have been scrambling to get things ready. What a fankle (another Scottish word for you:). I am realizing how unready I am for a market stall. Display is not a strength of mine. In fact I am quite nervous about it. Today I plan on popping around to look for baskets or boxes to display prints in. Any ideas?? They are not matted so are a bit floppy. Any other market tips?.....so not prepared.............but excited too.
I'm hoping for a table with a wall behind me.

You take the best photographs of Halifax. They're great.

Congratulations on the market! I'm sure this will be the first of many so just think of it as a work in progress. I have a feeling you'll pull it all together and it will be fabulous.

Definitely back your prints w/cardboard or other heavyweight paper (I've used w/c paper w/the added bonus of it being acid free). Baskets are always fun to rifle through. Multi-buying deals are always nice too. If you have any "stuff" you've painted as display is nice addition to "flatware". Try and hang some pieces as well as off-the-wall. A homey background is better over traditional "wall" type decor. Just some thoughts on why I'm lured into a booth ... good luck. I think you'll do amazing at the market. Your work is so cheerful! :D

Very exciting! Now I'll have to head down to the market...I've been meaning to go but haven't got around to it yet. My mind isn't coming up with any original display ideas, but I'm sure you'll pull something together.

Congrats! I can't wait to get to the new market (STILL haven't yet lol). I think a cute way to display photos/pictures is by stringing up some ribbon or twine and pinning them to it, like a clothesline! If you put it sort of above your table somehow it's good for catching people's eyes over the crowds and drawing them in, plus they can look right at your best ones without having to rifle through a pile

So glad you got a spot. I'll be there on the 4th and on the 18th. So, I'll make sure to find you. I think one of the most important things for display is different heights. Simple boxes covered with fabric can work. You'll do great.

a photography vendor I used to frequent put each photo in a cello envelope with a piece of cardboard, in order to keep them stiff enough to put into baskets. That also kept customers fingers from leaving marks on the prints.

wish i had advice on where to buy the cello envelopes but I don't

good luck at the market! your photos are so beautiful they speak for themselves. however, I'm a simple kind of gal so for me, any type of black showcase box would be my choice! I feel like people are attracted to clean lines when it comes to presentations...
