Wednesday
The bold Monty keeping a lookout for squirrels and birds! What a day we had yesterday!! It could have been August. A beautiful gift of a day plopped into April. Today we are back to normal but it is still lovely outside. I bought some soil to put into long planters where I will grow Swiss chard and beets and peas and lettuce.
Now, I need your advice.... we have ants........inside:( I will go onto the web to look for ideas but I was wondering if any of you have tried and true methods of getting rid of them. It is silly because as much as I HATE them inside the house, it makes me sad to kill them. I know, I know, but they are are ALIVE and it seems horrible to squash life.
It seems that the video I posted yesterday was based on another one! Carol of Paris Breakfasts send me the link to this one, done in Liverpool to a different song and on a larger scale! More singing and dancing fun:) ........This just in...one more flash dance...... Picadilly Circus, Beyonce's song.

Ugh- we get the sugar ants- and they drive me crazy. Since we live by the beach (mom said ants are more prone by the beach - ?? bc of the sandy soil?), we just have to keep all food in storage containers. If nothing to eat - they go away. But I do squash them - sorry!
Hi, Shelagh! Monty is gorgeous! Try to identify where they are coming in and put down a big thick line of cinnamon. Ants don't like cinnamon and won't cross it. You may have to replenish it periodically, because the smell lessens and it can blow away. If they find a crack, they'll come through. Give it a try! :-)
So happy to hear that you got some beautiful weather and were able to plant. I wish that I had advice on the ant issue...we get them too and in droves...it makes me absolutely crazy. Cean sprays outside, but it does not seem to help too much, thus I am forever cleaning the kitchen in an effort to keep them at bay....I love Anne's idea about cinnamon though...will have to try that. xo
Hi Shelagh,
I think Monty is so sweet looking out of the window...
Can't help you with the ant situation -
But, I sure loved all three of those videos...I think the world should be happy like that - not so much hate!
Hi, I just had a problem of ants in my house. I used the ant bait from raid (I believe) square black plastic product where the ants go inside then go back to the colony with the poison. After a week, I have not seen ants in the house anymore.
And as much as I hate to do this (nature lover), if you don't control it then you will have about 100 or so ants... I do have an ant phobia problem so seeing that many freaked me out. I can deal with them outside :)
I love your art and your kitty reminds me of mine... hope that works.
I have a problem killing living things too. Not sure what to do for that. Poor you and poor little ants!
Awesome picture!
hi shelagh...i'm a little late today. glad you had beautiful weather yesterday and it sounds like you made the most of it. sweet monty is beautiful! funny, i posted about our wee kitties too! xo, mickey
Oh dear, I don't have any suggestions for ants, but I do so hate them in the house as well. Although I have no problem killing ants. Other things, yes. But not ants. :D
Ants -- If you know where they're coming in, that'd be the place to start. But if you don't know, that's okay as well. I mix equal parts of sugar and borax, and put a thin line of this along their travel path (the opening they come in at, the surfaces you see them on). Ants love sugar and they'll carry the mixture back to the nest where the borax will kill them. And yes, you want to kill all of them because they've made a trail to your house that ALL the others know about.
You'll have to keep Monty away from this; my cat never bothered with it. Perhaps you could quarantine him to other rooms. But this mixture always worked for me.
Monty is a very handsome kitty!
Thanks for posting those videos. I agree with Sara - it's hard to be angry or sad when you're singing and dancing!
i just found your blog through the PAWS blog. i love your art work so much. I think I had "heart" ed you on etsy a long time ago. Anyway your blog looks interesting too. I'll be back. I just wanted to say "hi"
(i'm one of the artist in the book as well.)
i keep seeing an ant or two in my bathroom. I think i'll try the cinnamon trick.
Wish I could help you with the ants, but wanted to atleast tell you how much I am enjoying your cookbook! My kids especially love the simple but delicious maple butter carrots. Olive appetizers were a hit, as was the artichoke dip. Will keep you posted as I go through the book!
Hi Shelagh, cute Kitty. We now have ants too. I would lend you my five year old son who seems to love to squash anything that crawls. I have tried explaining about how they have their lives and little families, but before I can finish my sentence they have been stepped on.
Hello again! If you do end up going with ant bait, the very best brand is Taro. We can find it at our home improvement store. Don't know if it is available outside the U.S.
