Fire
Halifax is in flames. There is a huge fire that has been burning out of control on the outskirts. Yesterday my daughter and I were doing some errands and noticed the dark billowing clouds in the sky. Ominous. We found out soon enough what it was.
Gorgeous forest is gone as well as homes:( No reports of injuries, thank goodness. It is raging still. You can smell woodsmoke in the air. We have just had a hot dry spell and our forests are full of dry tinder left behind when Hurricane Juan downed many trees. The winds are high, fanning it on. People were literally running from it with whatever possesions they had the presence of mind to grab. Such a shock. Here is an article from our local paper with more info and a link to an extraordinary picture of the fire There is rain in our forecast today.....I hope it starts sooner rather than later.
UPDATE: It is raining! Hooray:)

How frightening! I don't think of wild fires in Canada for some reason.
My thoughts are with those displaced.
How dreadful and terrifying. I hope for rain soon for you.
We heard this on the news this morning (Husband and sons watch CBC news online in the mornings) and I wondered if you were ok. Glad to hear it hasn't come your way but sorry for all those affected.
Praying for rain. We had fires burning well away from our area a couple of years ago and it is very spooky and scary.
The fire is a very sad thing for the homeowners who have lost everything.
My thoughts are with the people who lost their homes.
Oh my gosh..that is awful! I wish I could send you some of our rain!
I'm so sorry to hear about the fire and loss of the forest. I've been so absent on blogging for awhile.
Take care,
Leslie
Oh, I know hot unsettling and upsetting wildfires can be. Living here in SoCal, we get them every fall and have come very near having to evacuate ourselves. It is such a scary experience. Hope it is put out soon and you remain safe! I'll be saying prayers!

I am so sorry this happened in your area. Every summer we were in New Mexico there seemed to be wildfires in the mountains, burning huge stands of trees. It is frightening to see the smoke and wonder if it will come your way. May it end quickly!
Hi, Shelagh! Sounds scary! Glad no one was injured, although it is hard to lose a home. Hugs! :-)
