Middle of March means.....

The maple season has begun here in Nova Scotia! Here is a list of the festivals this year. I ALWAYS try to make it to the Earltown Maple Festival. They hold it in their one room school house and we are fabulously entertained with fiddlers and other musicians:)

This year it is on March 27th. It starts at 10 and goes until 6. Best to get there early so you don't have to wait in line too long. It is about an hour and a half drive from Halifax. Earltown is a tiny wee community with a funky general store. I always pop inside and pick up something, even if it is just a small bag of chips.

With full bellies, we then head over to Sugar Moon Farm for some maple syrup on the snow and a hike along the tap line up into the sugar bush! Here is a link to their sap journal for this year. If you miss the Earltown festival you can visit SugarMoon any weekend for pancakes and maple fun.

Ok, so who's in??

Gosh, I remember when you posted about this last year... has it really been a year?! I just bought my maple syrup from the health shop the other day. I'm sure it's cheaper where you are! but nothing else will do on my porridge ;-)

Too bad Alberta is so far away, or I'd come along!

We have a Sugar Maple Festival here, but we have never gone. I'm not much of an outdoor winter person and it's still cold and yukky out. Maybe next year we will give it a try. It always sounds like fun.

Ohhh, yum! Maple syrup is so expensive here in Australia, but soooo good!

Here too, although the season has started a tad early for us, thanks to the freakish warm weather we've been having! Gotta love the sugar shack!

As a girl in New England, we used to go to Sugaring Off parties. The air was rich with the aroma of maple syrup and we'd eat the sugar off the snow, like in your picture. Ah, what fun!

I have several good memories of visiting sugar shacks in Quebec with my mom. It's such a pleasure to enjoy a plate of warm pancakes with fresh syrup on top or a Popsicle stick or toothpick dipped in iced taffy. Glad you were able to have such a good day.

Ah, you're making me yearn again! But at least this time I have the comfort of a large bottle of Sugar Moon's finest in my cupboard (we bring back only the important souvenirs from our holidays!)

Oh my gosh that looks so good. There have been so many amazing things about Living in New York, but visiting a maple syrup farm was a real highlight. Seeing your post brought it all back.
Thanks!

Down this way, the Maple Syrup Festival is held at the Parkdale/Maplewood Community Centre, about 20 min from me. We don't get a tour, but we do get full bellies of sweetness!
