Blue Poppies

Blue Poppies on eBay

I've got a big bag of beets in the fridge and I have to do something with them. Any ideas? I will be checking the wonderful internet but it's always nice to hear suggestions from "real" people. It is one of the interesting quirks of getting the organic veggie box, you never know what you are going to receive and often get things that are not on your regular grocery list:)

I am sure some of you have heard about CPSIA in the US but maybe some haven't. It is the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act. The implications are very scary! HERE is an informative post by Gretchen written about it and how it will affect you and your children and those of you who make things for children. Libraries will have to remove books for ages 12 and under. I don't know if Canada is planning on doing anything similar.

Bonjour Shelagh! I stop by your blog regularly but never seem to find the time to leave comments, you know, slow speed ... I love this painting, it is so bold, so graphic, so simple yet so beautiful! Hope you are managing to survive winter in your neck of the wood... Take care, LuLu

The CPSIA seems like such an over-reaction. No controls over imports, but it could put thousands of entrepreneurs out of business. Crazy.

Those poppies are BOLD as LuLu said. I love them.

How do you decide between ebay and etsy for selling your artwork? Is there an advantage of one over the other?

Such gorgeous colors.

I like beets sliced and boiled, and then make a sauce for them out of orange juice, cornstarch, and a bit of sugar.

oooh, those poppies are beautiful!

I hope we can all get this ridiculous law amended before it is too late! Good luck to everyone!

Beautiful artwork! The colour is simply dazzling.

For beets, I like to peel them and slice them into wedges and then roast them in foil like with parchment paper. Inside top them with some butter, salt and pepper and then seal tightly. I think I roasted them at 375F for 40 minutes. Then I put them in a salad and goat cheese is a perfect pairing. Walnuts go great with them too.

Oh I know, this weather sucks. Thankfully we have enough food so we won't be going anywhere for a while. We're nearing the anniversary of our accident and the less time I spend on the roads the better. Stay warm too!

1 - love, love, love the poppies! They really pop! Great use of color and your over all is always fabulous!

2 - never had anything but canned beats. Once, in a restaurant, my mom cut into a beet with a fork and half of it flew off her plate and hit a lady in a white coat and rolled down the front of her! I hadn't thought of beets or that story in a long time. That was nice, makes me miss my mom.

3. Thanks for the article link. How interesting! I haven't heard a word about it, nor had my mom-in-law who is the office manager for an elementary school. Hmmm. Will be interested to see how this all plays out.

Moving on to the next post. I'm getting behind!

Let's hope Canada is not planning on doing anything similar. We all want our children to be safe, but this is just in the realm of insanity. It just makes no sense on so many levels.

The Blue Poppies are very happy! xoxo

Shelagh,

I love your blog and your paintings!

I'm the only person in my family who will eat beets. I can't understand it. I like them roasted. There is a salad bar in town that has them fresh and grated. Mmmmmm.
Sacred Suzie's recipe sounds like one I'll have to try!
