sand, surf and sun
One hour from the city of Halifax. Clam Harbour Beach. 3KM long, lovely and virtually empty. I took a picture looking up the beach and then turned and took the opposite direction. This is one of those beaches where you walk out forever to get to water deep enough to swim.
It is also the site of a large sandcastle building competition each year. August 16th this year. I have never gone but might try to :) I forget how beautiful Nova Scotia is until I head out and visit these places. Must spend more time away from the city!!

Ohhh!! Lovely and inviting!! Wish I could see it with my own eyes. Great photos!!
The shores of Nova Scotia are so lovely!
It would be fun to go to a sand castel competition! I always marvel at how the artists can make such beautiful sculptures out of wet sand.
You're right, it's a gorgeous beach. The more I sea of Nova Scotia the more there is to explore. Thanks for the beautiful pics.
Gorgeous beach! Our beaches in Oregon are always so rainy and windy. I hope we get lucky this weekend, camping at the beach! What were we thinking? :)
The beach looks wonderful. I think we tend to forget how lovely the area we live in is - but, when we get out there and explore - we find lots of great places!
Your pictures are making me want to visit there. Everything looks so awesome. What is the weather like in Nova Scotia??
I agree, you have to leave the city to see what Nova Scotia really has to offer. I am also from the HRM and this summer have explored many beautiful places just a short car ride away. Great pictures!
beautiful shots
Just amazing! Really beautiful pictures ... I can't wait to get to our local beach in a few days :-) We are now settled in our new home and have decided that the beach will be our first outing ... hope all is well! x
Hi, Shelagh! Great photos! You really should go to the sandcastle building contest ... if only to watch and take photos. What fun! :-)
lovely, innit?
That is my kind of beach...the kind where one can walk in the surf for miles and hardly see a soul. :) Beautiful!
Your photos are lovely!
Clam Harbour is pretty amazing for its long stretch of sandy shore. When my kids were young, it provided an ideal place for them to play safely in the water. It's also a good beach on which to find sand dollars.
However, the last time we went there, swarms of flying insects forced us back into our vehicle. We tried running away from them, but they were absolutely everywhere along the shore. I think it was just an isolated event, possibly happening once a year or so, but it was quite a letdown after such a long drive (we live in Cow Bay).
I've never gone to the sand sculpture competition and really feel like I've missed something.
This looks alot like a beach I visit near here. Its a beautiful place, as this spot also is.
gorgeous pics - we just went there with the fam this month too - really love that beach and the sky and the space... nova scotia rocks!!!
